There are so many diets out there--some of which are trendy like Paleo, Vegan, Whole 30, and KETO. What exactly is a keto or ketogenic diet? The ketogenic diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet. To achieve positive results, this diet has to be very low in carbohydrates, high in dietary fat, and include a moderate amount of proteins. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this happens, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy.

What's the most important thing to do so you can you reach ketosis? Avoid eating too many carbs. It's recommended to keep carb intake under 50g of net carbs per day (ideally under 20g).

Food that are high in carbohydrates that you should avoid on a keto diet: bananas, potatoes, pasta, beer, rice, bread, donuts, candy, soda/juice, and chocolate bars. You should also avoid processed foods and low-fat products as well. Low-fat products usually have too many carbs and not enough protein and/or fat.

Drinks recommended that have little to no carbs are water, coffee, tea, and red wine.

Keto diet benefits include weight loss, reduced blood pressure, improved sleep and mood, and increased energy efficiency. Another benefit of the keto diet is that it helps you lose excess body fat without getting hungry.
